The plan of Stage 5 that is shown for public comment has been derived after discussions with taxi, bus and shuttle bus operators, and with a number of businesses in the immediate area. The plan was recommended for public discussion by the Sustainable Transport and Utilities Committee in June 2003.

The Council is now interested in receiving public comment on the plan – both to gain opinions on the ideas proposed, and to gather any relevant information that may not have been considered so far.

People wishing to comment on the Square may do so through any of the following:

• Leaflets (with Freepost return) that are available at Our City or the Information Centre.

The consultation will close on 22 August 2003. Following analysis of the consultation comments, a report will be prepared for the September Council meeting.

When the final plan for the Stage 5 development has been decided, it is planned that construction will commence in June 2004, to ensure that the construction occurs in the season of quieter pedestrian activity.
