Description
The vision for a Christchurch - Little River rail trail to provide a pathway for cyclists and walkers following the alignment of the original railway line where practical, was developed by a working group in 2000.

The Christchurch-Little River Railtrail Trust (CLRRT) was set up to raise funds and assist in the planning, design and development of the trail. The Trust includes substantial membership from the local communities. In addition there is a CLRRT Steering Group to which a number of key organisations belong including Christchurch City Council, Selwyn District Council, Department of Conservation, Transit New Zealand and Environment Canterbury.
